Although most notorious for the twisted singletrack that traverses Ishpeming’s landscape, the City also offers a broad spectrum of recreation opportunities for all tastes and ability levels. Mountain biking, trail running and hiking are obvious choices as the RAMBA network runs through campground. The Iron Ore Heritage Trail and Heritage Hills Horse Trails are accessible from here as well. Ishpeming’s Al Quaal Recreation Area just a short ride North and provides access to Teal lake offering, swimming, fishing, and non-gas motor boating on a hot summer day. Al Quaal boasts a newly updated disc golf course, generously provided by the UPDGA, and even more trails to explore. 

Downtown in our Nationally Registered Historic District you can find food and shopping in a traditional downtown setting off the highway corridor. Several antique shops, boutiques, food and beverage options are available in addition to West End Bike Shop and Wilderness Sports to keep you geared up and rolling. Spend an evening (every Thursday in the summer) listing to live local music right on Main St.

Ishpeming is the site of the World’s Largest Gemstone, the Birthplace of organized skiing in America and home to the U.S. National Ski and Snowboard Hall of fame. We have three museums including the Ski Hall of Fame Museum, Cliffs Shaft and Mining Museum and the Ishpeming Area Historical Society Museum.
